Q: Concussion: should I be worried about dent after a head inju
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 13th, 2006
I banged my head last saturday very hard causing me to drop to the ground. Everything went black and I heard a crunch. I iced it down and took some asprin. I have had a headache for 6 days now. The bump has gone down but in its place is a very tender dent. Should I be concerned that this could be more than a bad knock to the noggin? Is it even possible to have a dent in your head?

According to the symptoms you are experiencing after the injury (“I went black”, “heard a crunch”, headache, etc.) it seems to me that you‘ve experienced a light brain concussion (cerebral commotion). The dent that you notice is probably the result of the impact on the soft tissues around the skull. It doesn’t seems likely that the scull is fractured. Nonetheless, you can consult your GP (general practitioner) and request a CT-scan of the head. If you start to experience stronger headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and losing conciseness you can go to a doctor as soon as posibble.
