Q: Anal Fissure: secreting mucous after surgery
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 12th, 2006
I recently had a surgery on my anus for anal fissure. There was post
operation pain and fair continuous intermittent bleeding for two weeks
after which it healed, followed by consistent mucus excretion everyday
till now, which spans about three weeks already. i felt the inside lining
of my anus having a small lobe which i think is a haemorrhoid which
in the past i did not feel it of this size (about 2mm approx dia). The
mucus secretion is rather irritating as i often felt the wetness during
any physical activity. i wish for professional medical advice as i had
a dispute with my hospital over a previous bill and wonder if i can get
haemorrhoid treatment on a personal basis or perhaps buy chemicals
such as sclerosant to inject myself for the removal of the haemorrhoid.
If not, perhaps any recommended treatment or treatment center or any help would do, thanks.

According to the symptoms you describe (consistent irritating mucus secretion from the anus), you might be experiencing rectal inflammation (proctitis). It is probably a complication from the fissure. Proctitis is usually treated with local antiseptics and antibiotics. It is highly advisable that you inform your surgeon about this as soon as possible. The “small lobe” in the anus must be be seen by a doctor (internist-gastroenterologist or abdominal surgeon) first and then a proper treatment can be recommended. If it is a hemorrhoid nodule, sclerotisation therapy is one of the possible treatment options, as is surgery and medications.
