Most of the time, insurance does not cover an abortion, or the clinic will not accept all insurances.

You may end up having to pay for it out of your own money unfortunately.

I will do some checking for other clinics =)

Carifairy, may I ask you a question? In the .U.K, all health care (including abortion) is free because of our .National .Health .Service but I understand that, in the .U.S, one needs health insurance. Why does this insurance not cover abortions? Surely that will mean more women are forced to go to 'backstreet' abortionists?

Unfortunately, american insurance often only covers necessary or life-saving procedures. Even teeth braces are often considered cosmetic, and not covered by insurance.

the fastest way to find out would be to call your insurance provider and ask them directly if they cover abortion procedures. Most insurance companies do not unless your life becomes threatened by the pregnancy. If your insurance company will not cover the procedure, there may be nonprofit organizations and foundations in your state to help you out with the cost.

Try www.Nnaf.Org (all lower case). It is the website for the national network of abortion funds. They should have a state by state listing of available funds.
Peace,
jenn

that isn't true. Every policy is different. Some ins co will cover elective abortions while others will not. Don't talk about things you are ignorant about.

which one? Many do. Health ins is a private business over here. Some offer it, while others do not. Same with birth control. Each policy can exclude different medical benefits. America doesn't have socialized health care (barring medicaid or medicare if one considers either socialized).

well, i've never heard of one that will. Gotta go off of what I know; and as I grew up on military healthcare constantly listening to by parents complain about it because we couldn't get some of the cosmetic things, I know just a little more than you think I do. I also know many people in insurance trying to get on state benefits, so they can get gastric bypass surgery, or other necessary but technically "cosmetic" procedures.

gastric bypass is covered as well... For medical reasons. And the requirements are strict, but many insurance companies cover it if it is needed.
