Q: Non-diabetic Hypoglycemia

I really have not been diagnosed with hypoglycemia yet. I had a blood test at the docs office and everything was fine (fasting test in the morning). But, he said to get a glucose monitor and use it when I had symptoms. I did and my glucose was down to 45. It does go away on its own with or without eating something. I get sweaty, blurred vision, shaky, strange feeling, etc. I've got other medical problems like elevated pth, calcium, and low bun along with some other ones that I don't remember. I have severe pain in my chest/back. This has been going on for 2.5 years now and I need help. What do I have? Does hypoglycemia have any corolation to these other things? Kidney stones, osteoporosis, pain?

Yep, pretty much all of that sounds like classic hypoglycemia. Calcium imbalances are common. Have you tried messing with your diet to see what happens?

Non-diabetic Hypo
No, I have not tried changing my diet. I see a lot of info on here on diets. I will search and find out what to do. Thanks for the reply

Okay, keep in mind that you don't have to follow all suggestions. You may be okay with whole grains depending on the severity of your condition.

"it does go away on its own with or without eating something."

i get the same thing, if I leave my symptoms long enough, eventually, they'll go away on their own, even if I don't eat, but how does that work?

I thought that once your symptoms started, that they would progressively get worse and worse, as your blood sugar would keep falling and falling?

So what happens there? Does it jump back up once it falls below a certain level or something?

Yeah, i've had that happen too, there are a few possibilities.

1. The body will eventually adjust the level slowly and it will go away, simply because it has enough energy stored up to restore the balance. Over time, though, if you keep eating bad it will progressively lose the energy it needs to restore it and you'll take a long time to get better, maybe even days.

2. Whatever you ate may have caused a sharp drop, but may have also contained enough carbohydrates to restore the level a bit at the same time that it dropped it. The drop may have happened, but you can't forget the fact that there are carbs there, regardless of how bad they may have been. Of course, as I said in number one, the same issue applies over time.

3. Your regulating mechanisms may not be entirely messed yet.

4. Your hypoglyemia may not be as severe as other cases (thus you may be able to handle grains).

5. It may simply be a coincidence and a sign of bad things coming. The restoring of the level may simply mean something is wrong, but it's not that bad yet.

Thanks again stan. I never realised hypoglycemia could be so complicated or that there could be so many reasons for certain symptoms.
