Q: Period Late- Pregnant? Help!

I woke up this morning again hoping I would have my period but it is offically 4 days late now. I have had sexual intercourse since my last period, even though it was protected I fear the results. My period usually come between every 26-29 days which is not a perfect schedule. I know that stress can be a huge factor, and I moved to college about 1 month ago, 7 hours away from my family and boyfriend. My boyfriend and I have had a few problems over the past month regarding me being so far away, however I don't know if this is enough stress or not. We ususally work everything out very quickly so it's not like I feel sad all day on any occasion. I would just like to now how many days is normal before I should really freak out, which im already starting to do. I really have no symptoms of a period right now, just a little tender breats.

Scared at college

As you are late for your period, you can take a pregnancy test now. If it shows negative and you still don't get your period after another week to ten days then take another test. If it's still negative then perhaps a visit to your doctor would be wise. It's probably just stress though. Periods are funny things and tend to go missing in action at times.

Well done on having protected sex by the way - I know it can fail women on rare occasions but at least you are trying to protect yourself.

Thank you!
Im going to buy a test today but i'm very scared to find out the results, I would have no idea what to do if I was pregnant! I just started college and have always been the reponsible//leader girl that everyone follows. Its just really hard to try to except that.

If you know anything else please let me know!

Thanks again!!

All I will say is that if you are pregnant, please make sure that whatever decision you make, please ensure it is your decision and you are not over influenced by anyone else. Of course, it's great to get the opinions of your family and close friends but at the end of the day, you need to do what you want to do and what you feel you can live with. Don't worry about what is 'expected of you' - this is your life.

None of the options are easy when it comes to an unplanned pregnancy.

it could be one of two things. It could be the natural lubrication of the cervix prior to your period starting. Or, it could be the construction of a cervical plug if you are pregnant.

Have you had any other symptoms that may cause you to think you are pregnant? How did the home pregnancy test go? If you are pregnant, you typically should have a positive result on that test by now since most of the newer tests are sensitive enough to pick up the hormone, hcg, from the first day of your missed period.

Just take a few deep breaths, take the test, and go from there. It could be that all of this worry is for nothing.
Keep us posted.
Peace,
jenn

I guess I will try and call the clinic on campus on friday and see if I can get a test (that would be like 5-6 days later by then) its just the fact I am so scared to know the truth!

And even if its negative isnt there still a chance!??

Thanks jenn and all

keep letting me know!

there is always a chance but in this case it is very, very small. Most pregnancy tests today are sensitive enough to pick up the hormone at the very earliest of stages, almost right when the hormone is being produced. If the test is negative and it is already past the time when your period should have occurred, you can consider yourself not pregnant and relax a bit.

It is a little easier to get a false negative than a false positive but the chances for both are very small.
Best of luck!
Peace,
jenn

Ok so now it has been 6 days and im starting to wonder because...

- my boobs feel tendered
- I have discharge
- I have cramps
they feel like period cramps although I have never experienced cramps before my period, I usually get them the 1st or 2nd day into my period and there anywhere from mild to hurting badly

so I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this means??

Well it could mean you are going to get your period.

It could also be pregnancy symptoms. I got cramps a lot early in my pregnancy and everything turned out fine.

It could possibly mean you are going to have a very early miscarriage.

There are so many things these symptoms could be but you won't know if it's pregnancy related until you take a test. If I were you I would go and buy a test from the store or wherever rather than wait for an appointment with your doctor because this is obviously bothering you and it would be best to know sooner rather than later what the deal is.

Obviously, if you find yourself in really bad pain then go to the hospital or see your doctor asap.
