the Pill And Cramps/period
Posted: 10-10-06 21:43pm

I just finished my second cycle of the pill. I had pretty painful cramps and my period was just as heavy as before going on the pill. I have read that your period is supposed to be a smaller amount and cramps diminished...So I am wondering if maybe the pill is not working for me??? The only difference I have noticed while being on the pill is I don't seem to experience pms very much at all. I felt emotional one day versus for a week! That is an improvement. Also, I know that when you are on the pill you should be protected the whole time, even during the week of placebo pills, is this correct?? Basically, i'm worried because we had sex with no other protection the day before I started the new pack of pills (3rd pack) and since my period was so heavy i'm worried the pill isn't/won't be effective. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you.

Hi there =)

not all women will expreince the lighter periods, many do, ut other women will notice that their period remains about the same. You could always try another pill to see if helps, but since it lessens your pms, that may be a good tradeoff. Perhaps in time it will lighten.

It is effective during your period week, so no worries.

Yup that's right.
You are protected even in the placebo week Smile
and periods are weird things often seeming to have a mind of their own.
Just because your pill hasn't lessened your periods doesn't mean it isn't working.
The fact that it has had an effect on your pms is a good sign.

Maybe discuss with your doctor a different brand though if you have heavy and painful periods

Well not every woman will have her period get better on the pill. My cramps got a little better but I still bleed like I did before the pill. It just depends on you.
