Q: Depo Provera: can the shot cause frigidity?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 10th, 2006
I am on the shot and I been on it for 3 years. I am curious about how come I don't want sex ever. Is it me or is it something in the shot that makes the body feel like its in a bubble so you can have no one touch it. Please respond because I would like an answer.

According to the symptoms you report (“don’t want sex ever”), you might be experiencing frigidity. Frigidity can’t be caused by contraceptive shots (depo provera). In fact, hormonal contraception can increase the libido because a woman can feel safe from an unwanted pregnancy, and therefore less anxious in general. You can visit your gynecologist and even a mental health professional (psychologist, sexologist, psychiatrist) for a consultation about your symptoms.
