Hello all. I'm new here. I recently lost my lil girl at 18wks 3days. I delivered her vaginally and she lived for 5 hours. 3wks after, I had my pp check w/dr. He prescribed me aviane to start on if I wanted to prevent pregnancy. When I got it, I read the handout and it said to start on the first day of your period, but the dr just told me I can start as soon as I get it. The thing is, I started that sunday I got it and didn't stop bleeding until today, which makes 6wks 1day postpartum. Me and dh have had sex with no condoms starting 1wk ago, since I was only spotting and bleeding very lightly. Do I still have to take the inactive pills since I still don't know when I started or if I started a period and when to expect one? Or could I have still gotten pregnant? I'm not worried all to much if I did get pregnant again, I think I was having mixed feelings when I got the pill in the first place. But if i'm not, then i'm still okay. If things don't go the way they're planned, I won't be bummed. If god wants it to happen, then it will happen whether I like it or not. Just like when he called upon my little girl. Well, I hope someone can help me. It would help a lot. Thanks.

If you start bc pills on the first day of a period then you are covered straight away, if you start them at any other time (which is fine to do) then you need to abstain or use a back method (condoms) for 7 days.

Typically women find they are more fertile just after giving birth or having a miscarriage.

So yes you are at a risk of pregnancy, but the only way to be sure is to call your doctor/gyn and get checked out, as a home pregnancy test may well still show you as pregnant because of the hormone levels.

Okay okay..I went to my 2pp f/u yesterday and took a urine test to check if I was pregnant. It came out negative, but he said that it could still be early for it to show, so retest in another 3wks or if I don't get my period in one month. I asked if there was still a chance to get pregnant even though I was still bleeding, and he said yeah. Even though I didn't use backup method 2wks after starting the pill. He also said that I could be starting my period this week, which is when I should be on the inactive pills...I haven't stopped bleeding since I gave birth and that's why the dr isn't sure whether it's my period or that i'm still bleeding postpartum. I'll have to still continue taking the bc pills and if I don't get my period next month, then take a hpt and call him if it's positive!! So I guess i'm going to have to wait a long time.....Thanks for the replies.
