Q: Silicea Gel: have side effects, allergies, or kidney damage
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 6th, 2006
I just started taking 1 tbsp a day of Silicea Gel for my skin, hair and nails. Are there any side effects to taking silica? What allergic reactions should I look for when taking it. Also, would it damage my kidneys if taken for a long time? Thank you.

No side effects from Silicea Gel have been reported yet. There is no data that Silicea could be toxic for the kidneys. Allergic reactions are totally unpredictable side effects. Allergic reactions can occur to any kind of medicine. Allergic reactions can manifest differently, from the easiest skin rush to the heaviest anaphylactic shock. If you get any sign of allergy (skin rash, itching, hard breathing, hypotension…) stop taking the medicine and consult your GP immediately.

RE: Adverse Side effects
Hi, I have been taking Silica for approximately 2.5 weeks now for hair thinning. I'm 41, female and generally fit. A couple of days ago I lost eyesight in one eye for half an hour and for the next three days had a headache. As I have not had this before wondering if perhaps Silica causes this? I am also taking Omega 3 in the form of Flax oil. Many thanks, Tanya
