Q: My Friend

So, today my friend told me in the lunch line that she's pregnant. She's about 5 weeks and she's due sometime in june. We're not best friends or anything but we've know each other for a few years and i'd say we're good friends. She's in grade 12, a year above me.

My point is, i've never known anyone besides my mom that's been pregnant before. I don't know what to say or do! Should I be happy for her, scared for her, excited for her? What should I say to her? What kind of things are acceptable/unacceptable to say to a pregnant 17 year old? Was it wrong for me to act excited today when she told me? I'm lost here. Any advice from real pregnant teens would be greatly appreciated. Smile

was she excited about it? Just be supportive. That'll help.

I know i'm not pregnant but that's okay.

By supportive, just tell her you're there for her if she needs someone to talk to, that'll mean a lot to her i'm sure.

its ok, well when I found out I was pregnant, I was scared and happy. It helps if you act excited and try and have fun with her. Like talking about names and what sex she wants, stuff like that. When I found out my bf started looking up names for boys and girls stuff like that. Just try and tell her she'll be ok and that your there for her. And that you think she'll be a great mom, stuff like that, and what a great job she'll do. And how she can count on you for moral and emotional support

I remember telling my "best friend" that I was pregnant.. She was shocked, but also kinda b*tchy about it. And then started talking about herself, coz she couldn't stand that I had bigger news than her. Needless to say I no longer consider her my friend.

Most of my friends were extremely supportive though, and those are the people I want in my child's life.. Just make sure your friend knows you're there for her; this is one of the hardest things she'll ever go through and she needs her friends.
