Q: muscle pain in sternum

This afternoon I woke up from a nap and noticed that my sternum was bothering me. Its not a constant pain (but a pain you can always tell is there even if its not hurting at the moment). It hurts when I turn side to side and when I apply any pressure to it. It also hurts to laugh.

Breathing doesn't affect it.

I vaguely recall turning awkwardly in my sleep and having pain in my sternum, but I don't know if that was the cause or me first feeling it.

Is it possible to have twisted awkwardly and strained a muscle there somehow?

It is possible to pull a muscle in your sternum, quite annoying actually. On the other hand if you have chest pain don't mess around with it and see your doctor. Better to be safe than sorry!

Goodluck, let us know how you went on.

The thing is, its not a chest pain as in an "oh crap im having a heart attack" chest pain. Its extremely localized, only hurts when I turn a certain way, and is similar to other "strains" I have had.

Its also a pain that gets much worse the harder you press on it, so its definitely something physical.

Its annoying.

I'll see how i'm feeling tomorrow afternoon.

Hernia?
Pulled muscle?
Inflammation of the ribs?
Cracked/broken rib?

It could be a million different things...Goodluck!
