Hi:

i am new to the ehealth forum and have a question about ovarian cysts. I am a 46-year-old woman who still has regular periods, although they are beginning to get lighter and shorter in duraction. I recently had a transvaginal ultrasound (my doctor prescribes them annually as a precaution) and it showed a 1.3 cm hypoechoic complex cyst on my left ovary. There is no solid component to the cyst, so I guess it's complex because it's hypoechoic. I am being retested in two weeks (it'll be 6 1/2 weeks since my first ultrasound). I got a copy of the radiologist report, and it simply said to retest in 2-3 menstrual cycles. I'm worried this cyst could be cancerous because it's complex. My question is: can a complex cyst still be a functional cyst, that is, due to ovulation? Or are all functional cysts simple cysts? Thank you all for your time.
