Have been going to ent specialist for years how has now written me off after ct and mri scans show nothing wrong with sinuses. Went to oral surgeon who says I do not have tmj as my jaw doesn't click. Now at alternative medicine doc who say I have got neck problems and tmj.

My symptoms:
neck pain at back of head
facial numbness around lower jaw
hand and feet pins and needles
ears popping and fullness in ears
eusthian tubes blocks as if I have sinus problems and throat gets blocked with mucus as if the passages are swollen
face goes really red
and basically I feel terrible
do I have tmj or not can anyone help
do any of you have the sinus symptoms????
Thanks in anticiapation merc

Hi mercedes,
i'm sorry that the ent was a waste of time. It doesn't surprise me though. With what you described, you might want to check with your family doctor about peripheral neuropathy and/or trigeminal (sp?) neuropathy (tn). Also, you can have tmj without any clicking or popping of the jaw. My jaw currently isn't popping, but it can and does when it wants to. You described my symptoms quite well except I don't get a red face. If you think you are grinding or clenching your teeth at night while sleeping, you should consider seeing a good dentist for a good bite splint. I stress the good because there are a lot of bad dentists and bite splints. We have to pray that god will help us in this area, that's for sure.

But you need to have your pain addressed. Do you have a primary doctor? It's interesting that tmj, pn and tn seem to confuse doctors. This is why I advise fellow sufferers to research and educate ourselves. I did see a neurologist who helped with the nerve pain management, but now my family doc helps me. I am taking lyrica for the nerve pain and it does help with my head, face, feet and hand pains. My neck pain is helped the most by going to a massage therapist regularly (every other week).

Mercedes - stress management is another area that is very important for tmj patients. I had to leave an interesting and exciting job because it was too stressful for me. I thought I loved this job also and was upset that I couldn't handle the stress, but I had to accept the fact that this is just how I am. I have to keep my stress down to help my tmj stay pain free. It does work. I like my job now but it is definitely not stressful or exciting. I can't handle stress. Most tmj sufferers would do much better if they reduced their stress level, but it's difficult to tell people that. We don't want to believe we aren't super-human.

Take care of yourself.
God bless...
Carol

They are now sending me for an mri scan of my neck to out patients department so god knows how long that will take. Fell so clogged up in facial area today around cheek bones and feel as if I cam sucking mucus into my mouth, have you ever had that feeling??? Just wished this awful thing would go away completely. How long have you had this complaint, do you feel horrid everyday.
