Q: Weakness of Nerves (legs) Due to Herniation

I have a very large herniation in l4-l5 level due to an accident.
I am planning to have surgery in about 15 days time.

Currently I do have chronic pain in my lower back and legs (especially left leg) I also feel some weakness in both legs.

I do not have any numbness in legs yet. Some very minor tingling.

I visited a neurologist and he mentioned that if the leg becomes weak its irreversible because nerves might have weakened !

This really worries me as I still have to wait about 15 days before the operation(i can't get it done earlier due to pending arrival of new born)

is there a reason to worry about weakness of legs ?

Its been already 2.5 months since the accident and I am not 100% sure if I need to get the surgery done in emergency room. I am aware that if numbness or bladder problems happen that's the emergency but I am not sure if weakness also needs to be treated the same way.

Please advise.

Thanks

nish

Interested to know how the operation went , I had same problem with 2 levels l3-l4-l5 hernination, had a discectomy things went well for couple months doing my exercises & walking, then things went backwards leg back pain told it was scar tissue impedeing nerve ( failed op) nothing they could do, could try and remove (scar tissue) it but it would probaly happen again.
