Don't Know Where to Go, Need Help Posted: 09-29-06 12:59pm
Weird things have been happening to my
body this past week. I am 23 years of
age.
First I had a severe episode of chest
pain. I took a couple tylonel and laid
down. After that I started sweating.
After that, I started shaking violently in
my bed. At this point I was really
scared. I should have called 911 but I
didn't and I tried to hang on. I laid on
my side and went to sleep.
For the next few days, I still have this
lingering chest pain. It feels like my
heart but ill explain why it isn't later.
I started taking vitamins and 8 tylonel a
day. The third day, I wanted to try
something else, so I took a couple
aspirin. Later that day, a new symptom
showed up.
From my left shoulderblade all the way to
my left fingertips, it feels weak. Sort
of a numbing sensation but not numb. It
just feels weak. This really scared me
so I went to the emergency room. They
checked my vitals and gave me a ekg.
Nothing out of the ordinary. They
diagnosed me with chest pain (unspecified)
and numbness arm.
After that I was released and I walked
home from the emergency hospital room (20
min walk). I had a throbbing chest/heart
pain the whole way back. And the
numbness/weakness in my left arm/hand is
still there. I decided to sleep on it
since it was 3 am and try something else
in the morning.
I woke up and my arm and hand still feels
weak. I dont have insurance (working on
it) so I went and say a doctor my dad and
brother sees. The nurse gave me another
ekg. Then the doctor came in and gave me
some relief.
He told me there is nothing wrong with my
heart. If I had a heart attack, it would
have showed up on the ekg. He also said
I am too young to develop heart problems.
After this I literally said "i could care
less about the pains in my chest, this
weakness in my left arm/hand is really
starting to scare me."
he told me the weakness in my left arm
could be caused by a few things. If I
had a heart attack, then weakness in my
left arm/hand would show up. But thats
not the case. The doctor said it could
be a pinched nerve. And finally, the
doctor said "carpal tunnel syndrome". I
work on the computer alot, I file claims
for the doctors office. He suggested I
wear a brace for my left wrist to keep it
in a straight, natural position. I am
wearing the brace as I am typing this
now.
I don't know if im posting in the right
forum but I just want to know if
weakness/numbess of the left arm/hand is
associated with carpal tunnel symdrome?
Possibly any of you with ct, do you have
weakness/numbess in your left hand or arm.
Im kind of just rambling on but I am
really scared right now. Im scared that
my left arm and hand are going to stay
this way forever. And I dont know how I
am going to cope with that. This is
really bothering me.

Hi Steveng,
I was wondering if, several months after
your problem, you're still suffering from
CTS? Has your life improved or is the pain
still there? How do you handle typing on
computer with CTS?
Thanks for your reply,
Makaya

Hi!
I have CTS, and have had it (diagnosed)
for almost 3 years, but it's been a
problem almost my whole life. It's really
not that bad once you get used to it,
you've just got to know your limitations,
although I sprain my wrists or elbows at
least once a month. I'm a restaurant
manager, and I end up doing waitressing
all the time so I know not to carry too
much at a time.
Because I have CTS in both wrists, I can't
turn either wrist around all the way round
from the elbow, so when I pay for
something in a shop, it makes it really
difficult to get the change - especially
if it's all in coins.
I know there is a keyhole surgery you can
get, but I've had problems with my arms
and wrists for as long as I can remember,
so although it's something I will think
about and have been, I'm not in any great
rush to get it. At the end of the day, you
have to laugh about it. I might try that
brace though, it sounds like a good idea.
Do you think it will help me, if my arms
and wrists are not straight anymore, or do
you think it could cause more trouble and
pain if I suddenly change?
