I'm not 100% sure what that medication has in it, but most meds weaken the birth control and it's always recommended to use back up while on these meds.

Azo will help relieve some of the symptoms, but will not cure your uti. You need antibiotics from a doctor. I don't think it would affect your birth control, but the antibiotics might. Ask your doctor.

azo does not have penicillin. It only helps relieve symtoms, it will not make the uti go away. You need antibiotics to kill the bacteria in your urinary tract. And yes, it may make birth control a little less effective, but I think your health is more important than sex.

Try taking cranberry extract 3 times a day. Still go to the doctor for antibiotics, but take it from someone who grew up with chronic uti's-- 90% of the time they go away in like 2 days if you take a bunch of cranberry extract. You can usually get it in the vitamin section of walmart or kroger, and if for some reason they don't have it, gnc is bound to.

The symptoms may go away-but the bacteria will still be present, resulting in reacurring infections.

As a uti sufferer myself I have done much research on the cranberry topic. Cranberry doesnt cure uti' s,it prevents the bacteria from sticking to the uterine wall, thus relieving symmtoms.

"modern research has now led us to the discovery that cranberry helps relieve uti not by any process of acidification, but rather due to its ability to prevent microorganisms from adhering to the epithelial cells that line the urinary tract. Escherichia coli, the most common uti-causing bacteria, produces chemicals known as adhesions, enabling the organism to cling to epithelial cells where they proliferate and cause infection."

"it is now known that cranberry can reduce the bacteria responsible for uti. However, cranberry's effects on full blown uti infections have not been studied, so persons experiencing uti or uti symptoms should still seek medical intervention in addition to supplementing their diets with cranberry."

cranberry will not kill the harmful bacteria in the urinary tract, only antibiotics will do that.
Cranberry is more of a way to prevent uti's not treat them.

The longer you let a uti go without treating it, the sicker you'll eventually get. I didn't realise I had one until shortly after I found out I was pregnant. When I went in for my first doctor visit, they found .P.U.S in my urine! I was also running a fever. I must have had it for a few months, but because I wasn't feeling symptoms I didn't know.

Get it treated by a doctor, and do it now. You'll only get worse if you don't.

If you dont take care of the .U.T.I like aya said it may turn into relfux and you may end uf with a kidney infection or bladder infection.

While on antibiotics and after eat yogurt to balance out your digestive system to keep you on track as antibiotics remove all bacteria even the good ones and yogurts restores the balance of good bacteria.

this is exactly what I was going to write! Cranberry juice is only for preventative care and won't help after you have an infection. Azo will help with the pain, it will not cure you.

Probably the very last thing you want to do right now, but drink tons of water to flush out your system. And see a doctor. Antibiotics are the only thing that will cure a uti.

After sex make sure you pee. It can help prevent future infections.

Less sugary drinks (like soda) and more water!

Wipe front to back!

And don't stop taking the antibiotics when you begin feeling better. Finish the bottle!

Cherry coke was my downfall. I was addicted! Crying or Very sad

It didn't say it wouldn't work after you got it, only that it hadn't been studied.

And considering that it's worked to cure me all but one time, I say it's worth a shot. Wink cheaper than antibiotics, if you don't have insurance.

Juice doesn't work, though-- only the pills. Smile

yeah well every doctor of mine told me cranberry doesnt cure, only relieves symptoms like I stated earlier.
And considering that you said you had reacurring infections, it probably didnt work, just relieved symptoms and you thought it was gone. Then you end up with another uti when in fact its the same one from before flaring up again because it was never properly treated.

my doctor told me the same thing as nataliachick's doctor told her. He said I could drink it/take tablets - but it would never 'cure' an infection once it had been established.

I, too, have been a chronic uti sufferer - more than 4 in the last 6 months is more than I care to ever have again! I've seen many doctors regarding it. Their general concensus was to take low dose antibiotics whenever I felt one coming on (they hit really quickly) and drink lots and lots of water.

But, if you feel the tablets work great for you, that is fabulous! I hope they continue to work. However, sometimes you need to see a doctor because you can really screw yourself up if you let a urinary tract infection go for too long.
