Q: Questions About Lupus

Hi... We just found out that my mom has lupus, and I was wondering is it possible that I might get it? My great aunt also had it(my moms aunt) and does that make it possible that I could get it... Or could itr make me a carrier and I could give it to my child some day? Question I mean its bad enough knowing my mom has it, but to think that I could get it.. Or even worse pass it on to my children? I know it's wierd to think about it at such a young age(im 14).. But i'm just concerned about the future. Thank-you for your time.

Heredity
Dear little princess,

it is unclear whether or not lupus is hereditary, you might want to consult with your parents and their doctor about this. There are a series of tests that you can take (blood tests) that may help answer your question.

You can also go on www.Lupus.Org and find out information you may need. They may also have some support groups that can also help you in your search.
