Q: Cyst Found In Ultrasound

Hey everyone. I'm 24 wks and 1 day pregnant with a little girlie! Yesterday I had a check up and they told me that they had found a cyst on her brain when I had my 20 wk ultrasound. The nurse prac talked about it like it was nothing and told me not to worry, that it would more than likely go away. I'm so worried. She said sometimes they see cysts on babies in that stage of pregnancy and at my 28 wk appointment, they would do another ultrasound and see if it had went away. Did this happen to any of you? If so, what happened? Please reply! Thanks so much.

If you are concerned...and you have every right to be I would get an amnio done just to check for chromosome abnormalities. I just lost a baby because it had cystic hygroma which is a build up of fluid, which they refer to as a cyst. I know how concern I was when I found out something wasn't right, easy your mind and get the test.

I am in a similar situation.... I am 18 weeks pregnant with a girl and they also found a cyst on her brain, I was examined by 2 different doctors that day and 2 ultrasound techs. The doctor said I have nothing to worry about and that it would go away. But she also told me that if I was 10 years older ( in my 30's) that it would be an issue because the baby would have downs syndrome. I am worried. I agree that you should get an amniocentesis done. It can hurt your situation

20 week ultrasound
I just had my 20 week level 2 ultrasound and they just found a unilateral plexus cyst close to the brain. I am having mixed feelings. Our first baby boy was born with a cleft lip and feel I have a strong risk. However my alpha protein test, even though it is not 100% indicative of trisomy 18, showed that I was negative for Down syndrome and Trisomy 18. It kind of makes me feel like I shouldnt have to worry to do an amnio. Why put another risk on to another risk. I do however feel when researching the internet that i can not rule out autism since I have boy cousins with autism. Definately there was no cleft lip shown in this level 2 ultasound which was a relief. Anyone with this same situation?

Hi clt1975 -- how did things work out for u? My ultrasound we found 2 cysts and in the alpha protein test everything was negative. We decided against the amnio cause we were comfortable with the results.
