Dr. Appointment Update

I went to the doctor today. He examined me and his finger when all the way to her head. He said i'm 1 cm dilated, but my cervix still had some thickness to it. He said things are progressing ahead of schedule but it'll pay off in the end (not sure what he meant, maybe a shorter labor & delivery?). He said everything was fine and baby sounded great. I'm 35 1/2 weeks. Everyone's freaking out that he felt the head and i'm 1 cm already, but I read that you can be dilated for a while and nothing happen. I'm putting money on anywhere from october 8th-15th (hopefully not friday the 13th!). Lol

Oh crap I hope that's ok! I'm 32 and a half weeks and i'm 1cm dilated and my cervix has softened but is still thick too!

My labour is already planned - he'll come a few days early, i'll start contractions around 8am (so I can get a good sleepthe night before) and then have about a 4-6 hour labour and quite pain free!! Lol! I dont think that will ever come true!

But i'm sure you can be dilated and nothing happen for weeks, please correct me if i'm wrong!

Hi! I am not pregnant but one of my friends just had her baby in april and she was dilated 2 cm for like 2 weeks before anything happened. She made it sound like it was completely normal, so it probably is!

yeah...I was 1cm dilated from about 38 weeks and went 9 days overdue so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Some people are dilated like that for awhile and then others can be not dilated at all and go into labor the next day. You just never know. Good luck!

I think that everything will be fine. I am glad that everything is going well. I am sure that you can be centemeters dialated and not going into labor. Everything will be fine.

When I wiped last night I had a little bit of brown blood on the paper. Is that from the exam? It was just when I wiped once and it wasn't on my underwear or in the toilet.

I was a stretchy 2 cm dilated for more than 4 weeks - she was overdue!! This was after the doctor said, "you know, I wouldn't be surprised if I saw you way earlier than your due date. You could go anytime."

the truth about labor is, you cannot ever know when it will start. You are only 35 1/2 weeks, so i'd just get my rest and relax - you are not even considered full term yet. So even if you were to go into labor, they would give you something to stop it.

The blood on the toilet paper was from your doctor checking your cervix.

You might ask that he not do that at every appointment. It not only isn't necessary, it is invasive. A lot of doctors check once every few weeks - and some don't ever check at all. They go by the reasoning that dilation does not mean labor is imminent.

Get your sleep. You will need it. Wink

Thanks, but i'm fine with him checking me. I want to know how things are progressing.
I want to rest, but I have too much energy to clean. I'm trying to get her room ready.

aww, babies are 'fun' at every age. Just more 'trying' at some stages Wink especially the colic stage! When that was over I heaved a sigh of relief.

Lol...Thank *god* .Oni didn't have colic!! I don't know what I would've done!!!!!!

She was a *very* laidback newborn and she still is! Thank you *jesus*!!! She'll just sit there and let me do whatever i'm doing!

Of course that's because I used the ferber method when she was very young. That's why she doesn't have "arm-itis"!! Hahahaha....

Now, the only time she cries is when she's sleepy or hungry. Other than that....She just hangs out and laughs at *everything*!!
