Q: How Soon Do Blood Tests Work

Hello all, i'm new and of course have a question or two. I am 2.5 weeks away from my period and realize that a urine test will not give me any kind of answer at this point. However, I was wondering on the blood test method. My husband is leaving for iraq next month...So if I were pregnant this wouldn't be planned, & I would pretty much hate to have to go through this without him, but i'm prepared if I have to. I would just like to know sooner, rather than later. Kind of just feel like i'm going out of my mind wondering with him leaving soon.

My other thought was that stress could be a factor for my symptom of sore, tender breasts. I usually miss a period when i'm stressed, but painful breasts are new to me. I had sore breasts with both of my 2 children. Ah and yes, I had a doctors appt last week in which I was required to do a pregnancy urine test to make sure I was not pregnant because of medication that can cause deformities in fetuses. That test came back negative, but now I don't want to take the prescription until I know 100% that i'm not. Three days after the doctor's appointment my breasts became sore, and I had sex during those 3 days. So just wondering if anyone has any kind of insight into the relation of stress and tender breasts or how early a blood test works. Thank you :d

You're still 2.5 weeks from your next period? You're probably just ovulating right about now or will be soon, that could explain the breast tenderness.

I don't think a doctor will do a bloodtest until you've at least missed your period. I could be wrong though.

Sounds like you are having midcycle breast tenderness to me. In a general cycle, you more than likely haven't even ovulated yet. Then it takes 4-6 days for implantation. After implantation your body would start to release hcg - then your breasts would hurt due to pregnancy.

So you are about 10 days from that happening.

A blood pregnancy test wouldn't be given by your doctor until you missed your period.

If you are taking medication that could be potentially harmful to a fetus, you should be on birth control.

Thank you ingi, mid-cycle breast tenderness is new to me. I usually become fairly tender one week before my period along with other pms symptons, so that was very helpful to know. I have used protection for the last 4 years simply because of the havoc bc has on my body, and I realize that nothing is completely 100% safe.

If you have a 28 day cycle..You should have just literally ovulated ...Nothing will help you for anohter 10 days or so...

How Soon Do Blood Tests Work
Hello. I have a question about this also. My period isn't due until the 28th of January (next Wednesday). However, I am supposed to be having surgery the 22nd of January (this Thursday). When the hospital does my blood work will they be able to tell if I am pregnant or not? Thank you.
