Q: Experience With a Bone Tumor?

Hi! I have a bone tumor, which they suspect is benign, and I am supposed to have surgery to remove it sometime soon (still waiting on the surgical coordinator to call!). I have no idea what to expect as far as pain and recovery.

Have any of you had experience with bone tumors or their removal?

The orthopedic oncologist said it would be a day surgery, so I will get to go home the same day ... But other than that, i'm not sure what to expect. I know that in the procedure, they make an incision and "shave" away the bone tumor ... Since mine is located on my femur near my knee, will I need crutches or will I be able to walk without any help?

I would greatly appreciate any information or stories you all have to share!

Experiance with Bone Tumor/rocky
I had a similar surgery at age 10. You will need crutches and do exactly as your M.D. says pertaining to weight bearing, activity, etc. Remember, only a biopsy can confirm its benign. M.D. cannot always tell by look, etc. Good luck to you. Make sure the M.D.does follow ups so you don't develope knee arthritis,I did.
