Q: Gall Bladder and secondary symptoms: any insight?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 24th, 2006
I have recently went through a round of tests and found that my gall bladder has an ejection fraction of 19%. My surgeon did not feel that the gall bladder was my only problem. During the HIDA scan, the dye never showed up in my small intestine. I have had an CT scan of the stomach and pelvis, ultra sound, endoscope and colonoscopy. He is taking the gall bladder out this week, but still is not convinced that this will solve my original problem (6-8 hrs after meal having severe cramping, nausea and diarrhea, but not after every meal). Is it possible there is something that is getting missed in all of these tests? During the pelvic CT scan, they also found that the uterus was enlarged with fibroids. Further ultrasound was done and my primary dr says it is nothing that needs to be removed. I also have trouble with narrowed stools as well. Insight please?

According to the symptoms you describe (abdominal cramps after eating, nausea, diarrhea…), and all the diagnostic tests results you report (HIDA-scan, ultrasound, CT-scan, gastroscopy, colonoscopy), you might be experiencing billiary dyskinesia. Billiary dyskinesia is a functional billiary disorder that is manifested with abdominal cramps. An ejection fraction under 30% is an indication for gallbladder removal.
