Q: Pregnancy After Letz

I just have a cone biopsy/letz done around early august, afterwhich I got my normal period which is usually around 28-35 days. Of course, with the stress of the operation I got it within 28 days. Nothing unusual with that. I had sexual contact with my boyfriend after 3 weeks of my operation as advised by my doctor and it fell during my fertile period. 40days now I still haven't got my period but the pregnancy test result was negative. Is it because of the operation I got last august that cause the delay in my period or is it causing the negative result for the test?

It might possible be.My mum had it done and they told her to excpect irregular bleeding afterwards. This is usually from your cervix itself though and not you period.
What sort of birth control are you on? Sometimes this can have an effect....

Have you had unprotected sex? If you are still worried you could go and see your doctor and express your concerns

Thanks for the post.

We haven't used any birth control. That's the thing and I have never missed my period before. I also got my period after my operation. I haven't seen any drop of blood or even brownish discharge in more than 3weeks to indicate that I might be having my period soon.

I do plan to see the doctor by next week if I still haven't got my period within the week.

I just wonder if I should get another preg test or would it be useless as the operation in my cervix affects it anyway.

Appointment With the Doctor
Gosh, the earliest appointment I could get for my doctor is on 3rd october... I'm a bit worried that if i'm pregnant then it will be 7weeks and since I just had the letz procedure in august i'm not sure if that will affect the baby (sounding like a hopeful mother Smile ) ... Oh goodness, I know I will be disappointed again if the blood test would show negative results Crying or Very sad ...

You could take another pregnancy test and see if it still shows negative. What date was your last period?

Hmmm..... Maybe you don't have enough hcg yet. Just hold out for the doctors appointment. I know it seems ages away but you will be able to find out for deffo. In mean time you could try another home test

Yes, I should probably do another home test within this week and if turns out positive - I really need to see my doctor soon. I've read somewhere that the letz/cone biopsy procedure can cause a miscarriage especially if the cervix area hasn't healed yet...Probably the urgency would take me up to the appointment ladder.

Crying or Very sad i'm not pregnant... Started my period yesterday... Well, I guess that's okay cause I just had an operation in my cervix and it does usually lead to miscarriage. I wonder if it is actually a miscarriage cause I would have been 5weeks along...But don't want to think about it like that really cause if that was the case then I would be more devastated... Crying or Very sad

a cone/letz/leep procedure is not the cause of miscarriage. These procedures can weaken the cervix - but only if done very deep, causing the cervix to be 'thin'. Even then, a weak cervix would only be a concern when the pregnancy was far enough along to put pressure on it.

You should talk to your doctor about pregnancy after letz. It isn't advised for 6 months - mostly because they'd like to know they got all the bad cells.
