Hey, I really need some advice
im having some itching and minor burning around my vulva. Im not sexual active. Before I had no discharge or anything, just a bit of itching. But its been lasting a long time, so I thought I take a shot at it being a yeast infection, even though there was no discharge, and I took some monastat. That just made it worse, my itching increased, it burns slightly when I urinate, and now im having a light brown discharge. Kinda like the discharge you have after your period, only not as dark. Its september 23 and I should have my period till about october 3rd.

Could someone please give me an idea of what this is? Im going to the gynacologist soon, but I just wanted to have an idea because im going absolutely crazy with worry.

I had similar symptoms to you. I also had a bad reaction to yeast medication. I was also tested for all stds and all results were negative. I thought it might be herpes but had no sores to test. I just assumed I had herpes anyway and hoped it would go away. Last week I was tested for both types of herpes and the results were negative (it was not too soon to get tested - the usual period is wait 3 months after possible exposure but I waited 9).

I had this tingling, itching burning for two months, but I also had lower pelvic discomfort/pain. In the last week it got worse and I went to see my doctor again on friday. She said it sounded like pelvic inflammatory disease and advised me to go back to the sexual health clinic to get re-tested. My results were all negative except the urine test which showed I have a urinary tract infection. I was also diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease based on my symptoms, examination and history. I've been reading about it and it can be very hard to diagnose with the standard swab tests.

Since i've been taking the antibiotics my itching, tingling and burning symptoms of the vulva have immediately disappeared. Therefore even if you go to a gynae specialist you may test negative but have an infection which is cured by antibiotics. I didn't realise that anything but yeast or herpes could affect the vulva in this way, however the doctor said that my symptoms could be from a secondary infection so it must be possible.

You may have a number of things:

vaginitis
thrush
urinary tract infection

go and see your docotor and don't leave it untreated as you will end up with bigger problems in the long run!
