I am a 28 years old male. About three nights ago I woke up 3 nights ago with pain in right upper abdomen. About 5 inches to right of the center of my body and just below my rib cage. Not under my rubs but actually below them. I also had intense pain in the center of my abdomen about 1 inch below were the stermin ends and the half inch to right of my lowest ribs. The pain was also present in my right shoulder almost under my trapezes muscle. The pain was worse when I breathe, flex, or cough. If I am breathing quietly there is no pain. I have been taking motrin for 3 days and all symptoms are gone except a sharp pain in my right upper abdomen when I walk, cough, or flex. Eating food does affect the pain level, I am not jundice, and have normal stools. A day before this happened I was involved in a lot of bending over and heavy lifting. Any help would be great!

i don't know about straining but gallbladder attacks do happen suddenly at night and it hurts just where you explained. The pain is on the upper right side, it could also appear around the right shoulder. Gallbladder attacks are almost always linked to hifh fat, fried and spicy meals when a lot of bile is needed. If the pain turns into frequent attacks and doesn't go away in a few days (like it would in a muscle strain-i suppose), then you should see a doc and tell them everything about your symptoms and see if you could get yourself an ultrasound.
