Q: Not Sure Which Forum... Anxiety Attacks Causing Arrhythmia?

Well... Somehow I have an arrhythmia, and now we're trying to determine exactly what the cause is. I was convinced I was having anxiety attacks for almost a week before I actually went to the doctor for chest pain and shortness of breath (along with diarrhea, stomach cramps, shoulder aches, insomnia, and a racing heartbeat, to a lesser degree). I really think most of my problem is anxiety. Can anyone tell me if anxiety attacks can cause an arrhythmia?

Thanks,
-rachel

I'm not sure if i'm totally right, but to my knowledge, anxiety can cause an arrythmia. What type of arrythmia are you talking about? Do you have missed/skipped beats, no solid pattern, or too fast? I have felt them all with anxiety, and my doctor said especially a fast heart beat can be caused by it.

My sinus and av nodes beat at different times. So instead of my heart beating bump, bump, it beats b-bump, b-bump. But anxiety was making the sinus dysrhythmia i've had for the past few years worse-- when I would breathe in, my heart would race, and when I would exhale it would practically stop.
