Q: Infection of the Lungs?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 13th, 2006
i currently have had a so called viral infection for 1 month. it started like flu and left me in bed for about 2.5 weeks. it then developed into severe fatigue, muscle aches and weakness. i am now in week 4, a bit stronger than before but i now have a tightness in the chest and some white phelp which comes out. i also have something which feels like a head cold, slight heaby breathing, still some muscle aches and general weakness. i have had all the blood tests and all was good except slight anemia. i wasa given antibotics by my doctor as he thought i developed a secondary infection which was bacterial. however, the medicine did not suit me, another doctor from the same surgery advised that if i am getting better then just rest and drink water and you should get better. my main concern is that at night, i get slight chills and also slight sweating which i can feel on my chest, neck, back and under arms

please advise what this could be? many thanks

According to the symptoms you mention (fatigue, muscle weakness and pain, fever, chills, heavy breathing, chest pain, expectoration, night sweating…) it seems likely that you have some kind of infection. It might be a lung infection (pneumonia) but that has to be confirmed with X-ray imaging of the lungs. You can ask for expert help from a pulmonologist.
