Q: Sinusitis or Naso-pharyngitis?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 11th, 2006
Hi im sorry to bother you - i had a bad cold there last week lasting 3 bad days - it seemed to clear up - now i have a runny nose again - bit of a cough and what seems to be slight sensitivity in the upper right region of my teeth - could this be sinusitis brought on by the cold - i am going on holiday in a couple of days and seem to have been to the doctors a lot for small things like urinary tract infection and ear infection so i dont want to be a pain and have to bug them again :-( I feel fine in all other ways not sick or anything - im more afraid that its not and i have something wrong with my teeth but the sensitivity is only there when i walk or come down heavily on my feet or turn my head - its not sensitive to cold or hot drinks or anything ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thankyou

sinead

According to the symptoms you have described (runny nose, cough, and slight sensitivity of upper teeth), it seems more likely that you are experiencing naso-pharyngitis than sinusitis. I can’t exclude the possibility, however, of naso-pharyngitis developing into sinusitis. Sinusitis is inflammation of para-nasal cavities and usually occurs as a complication of naso-pharyngitis (inflammation of the nose cavity and the upper part of the pharynx). Sinusitis is manifested with a headache in the front part of the head, sensation of fullness or heaviness in the front of the head above the nose, stuffed nose, painful sensations in the eyes or upper teeth, and thick mucus in the throat when getting up in the morning. A cough and high temperature may be also present. You can visit an ENT-specialist for an expert opinion.
