Q: I Am Now Infertile

I had cramps/dark bloody discharge/liverclots/pelvic pain since my abortion. When I went rturned to the clinic after 4 wks of this they found retained tissue.I left it that long because they told me it was normal.
After my second d&c my bleeding and pelvic pains continued for the last 3 yrs. Eventually they found so much scar tissue -they seem to think it was from a undetected infection. I have never had any gynae issues before my abortion. I am now infertile.
If you have continuous pelvic apin for weeks and unusual discharge you must go back. Its not normal.
Regards xxxx

Just wanted to say i'm really sorry that you have had such a bad experience. I'm sure your story will help others to seek help before it becomes too late.

All the best.

Infertility stemming from abortion is so rare these days that it is not a concern enough for doctors to remind their patients of the slight risk.

You need not answer this here if you don't want to, but did you have your abortion after the first trimester? Abortions after 12 weeks are more prone to end in infection, and I think the rate of infection in first trimester abortions is less than one percent.

Regardless, i'm sorry you had a less-than-fulfilling experience with this. I don't think it's a bad thing to make women aware of the possibility of something like this, but I hope masses of women set on abortion don't go off and change their minds and have kids they don't want in fear of the small possibility of infertility.

Also, you may very well be able to become pregnant!

If you are having a period monthly, then you are ovulating!!

Perhaps you should get a fertility monitor to try and concieve!

I have seen women have 2-3 abortions, yet have 3-4 healthy children!

just because you are having a period doesn't mean you are necessary ovulating. The wife of my cousin can't get pregnant and she has her period every month.

This lady sounds to me she had a chlamydial infection, #1 bacterial infection that causes infertility due to scar tissue/ pelvic imflamotory disease.

Just because she cannot get pregnant does not mean she is not ovulating, there are 12$ tests that she can do for a few weeks to see if she is =)

male sperm counts can be low also..

Chlamydia infection would be something to consider.
