Anxiety Disorder Or Neurological Disorder? Scared! Posted: 09-07-06 10:39am
Hey there,
i am new here, but I have been reading
these forums for a while now.
A little background. I am a
27-year-old mother to an almost 1 year old
little boy, and married to a wonderful
man.
I have always been an anxious person.
My mom always says that even as a baby and
toddler, I was scared of everything
(elevator, noises etc). I know for a
fact my grandmother is like that too but
she is worse.
Anyway, most of my symptoms started when I
moved to the us from europe at the end of
2004. I have always lived home and got
married after I finished 7 years in
college and moved to the us to be with my
us husband. Soon I started getting
physical symptoms, like horrible neck
pain, tmj pain (although that can be
related to me having my wisdom teeth
removed, the tmj pain started after that),
pain in my legs etc.
Soon, in january of 2005 I became pregnant
and that was a whole new set of physical
inconveniences. The pregnancy on
itself was difficult for me too, in a
whole new country, no family or close
friends. Stupid me, I didn't get my
american driver's license either so I felt
confined. (i still need to get that
license).
I was in physical therapy most of my
pregnancy for neck pain and also hip
problems due to pregnancy.
After the baby was born, things were
really going for about 9 months. And
then other symptoms started.
In a nutshell these are my symptoms:
- burning muscle pain in my thighs (mostly
when I am tired)
- goosebump feeling in my legs, but no
visible signs of goosebumps
- pins and needles and tingling in my
toes
- a lot of twitching... Especially in
my thighes and bum, but also hands and
feet
- itching all over
- after that, I started having breathing
problems with tightness in my chest.
It felt as if I couldn't get enough air,
not satisfyingly... I couldn't get
over the top of my lungs. I constantly
had to make myself yawn to get the air I
felt I needed. That has gone down now,
I feel better
- and recently, since a few days, I have
bad muscle cramps that come and go in my
feet, calves, wrists and fingers
- I feel like there is a lump in my throat
when I swallow my prenatal vitamins (i
still breastfeed). They are huge...
It's like they get stuck in my throat and
it doesn't matter how much water I drink,
it doesn't go away. It takes a while
unti it goes away on its own
- and I still do have neck pain... Not
completely mobile. I am never pain free
in the neck but have learned to live with
it. I do get flare ups from time to
time though where it's really bad for a
few days but then goes back down
i went to see my gp when I had the
goosebump sensations, twitching and
itching, but before the breathing and
cramping problems.
She said it was probably hyperventilation
due to stress... Granted, it started
when we were apartment hunting... We
are moving from ri to ma.
Plus I do know for a fact I breathe
horrible... Not the best technique at
all.
With the chest pains, I went to the er,
and they did a ekg, a chest x-ray and
various blood tests (basic blood tests,
glucose, b-12, lyme etc)... All came
back normal.
Now I am sitting here all worried and
scared. Sometimes I just start crying
because I do not know what is wrong with
me and I imagine the worst things.
I am so worried about multiple sclerosis
or als. I know als is rare, especially
in young females, but tell that to my
scared self...
Is there anyone out there who can give me
some peace of mind?
I am going back to europe this month to
see my family. I will be traveling
alone with my baby... I am planning on
seeing a neurologist overseas...
Thank you so much!

I am psycologically breaking down and feel
all those physical symptoms you
mentioned,, people will tell me there is
nothing wrong with me and it is just
stress or all in my head but I dont see
how that is possible
