I'm 17 years old and in my freshman year of college. I recently got out of the hospital after being tretaed for anorexia but now i've relapsed and he univerisy health services wnats me to be re- hospitalized. My parents and I think that I should finish this semester because my blood work and eveyrthng internally is fine and I promised I would try to get better on my own. My question is can the univeristy still go against mine and my parents' will and put me inthe hospital?

Ps- I really want to finish this semster and this is a huge motivation for me to get better. I really think I can bet beter on my own because I am so scared of being re-hospitalized. For the past few days I have been eating well.

That's a tough one. I understand that school is important and helps motivate you, but I also know that relapses can be very dangerous. Most deaths from eds occur during relapses, rather than the initial illness. The longer your body is depleted of nutrients and kept at a low weight, the more stressful it is for your organs. Although you said your blood work was ok, your heart, kidneys, bones, etc might not be. Not everything shows up in blood tests.

I believe that you can recover without hospital treatment but it's much easier and safer to accept help. Forced interventions are possible but rarely happen without parental consent. Regardless of whether they try to make you go or not, recovery is ultimately in your own hands. No one can make you better or worse. However, they can support you if you decide to take your life back from ed. Accept help for yourself...Education means nothing without a heart beat.

I suffered from anorexia for over 5 years, causing severe damage to my body, including heart disease. I was in the hospital this past monday for near heart failure and need to return for more monitoring. I have osteopenia, my back hurts so bad all the time, anemia, kydney dysfunction, and many other complications. I don't want you to experience the same. Your eating disorder will consume you if you let it.

God bless you, strengthen you, and grant you wisdom in your decision.
