I had my iud fitted last night, i`ve had a sleepless night with the cramping pains but they seem to be subsiding, and theres been no bleeding.

The only problem is I can find no trace of my threads and this really worries me as the doctor told me she left them quite long, and when I go back in 6 weeks time she will shorten them if needed.

I was also told that if it was going to expel it could happen within the first 12 hours, could it have come out while I was on the loo and I did not notice!!?.

I am really worried as I cannot even begin to think of having another one fitted, it was more painful than I thought it would be.

If you cannot feel the strings you are supposed to go back immeiately to have them see if they slid into your uterus or if (more likely) the iud did indeed fall out. I wouldn't wait 6 weeks, i'd go asap.

I had a horrible time with the copper iud. Lots of heavy bleeding and period pains. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Mine came out in the first few days and I also experienced the cramps like you. I had to have another one put it so I got the mirena which wad fantastic and gave me no problems.

I had my paraguard fitted 16 days ago and so far not too bad. I had to reach pretty far up and search around to find the strings. I was told that the greatest risk of expulsion is in the first three months. I agree with eiri. If you can't find the strings get it checked by your dr right away. I hope everything turns out ok.
