Anyone here ever taken ativan? It was
helping me greatly and then, boom,
nothing. Zip, zilch. It stopped working.
The doctor said I have built up a
tolerance to it...Should I just take more,
or could that start an addiction?

Ativan Is Highly Addiction...be Careful! Posted: 12-08-06 21:41pm
I was prescribed ativan (lorazepam) for
acute anxiety and panic attacks. I would
take 1 - 1mg sub-lingual tablet before
boarding trains, buses and airplanes. I
found that it was very potent and when
used as a prophylactic it eradicated my
anxiety and panic attacks.
I did find that it made me jittery and it
caused dizziness and vertigo. In larger
doses, ativan will cause what is known as
retrograde amnesia. I found that aspect
of the drug particularly frustrating.
I have found that xanax (alprozolam) is a
better alternative to ativan due to it's
shorter half life. It too is a highly
potent benzo, but it won't linger in the
system for hours on end. Be forewarned,
that short half life also makes xanax even
more addictive and the potential for abuse
much greater.

My opinion or suggestion is to talk to
your Dr. I understand that they can be
hard on your system, especially after
being taken for awhile.
Good luck!

Well out of experince with adderall any
basicly any drug in general its common
sense if u build a tolerance to it and
take more u will become addicted. The
best thing u can do is talk to your doctor
to try and find a alternative drug cause
takeing more of the drug can cause
withdrawl symptoms that you probly wouldnt
expect, like having seizures from
withdrawl from benzos like ativan so dont
increase your dose it wil do nothing for
you in the long run.

With a lot of those mood altering drugs
you can built tolerance easily. I take
pain killers and have to take more and
stronger ones now than I used to. I used
to take valium for anxiety and noticed
that I quickly built a tolerance to it
within the first month's supply and had to
increase dosage after about 3 weeks by an
extra 2.5mg a day.
Don't let people fool you. If you are
taking your meds as you are supposed to
and not abusing them and you build a
tolerance to them then you need a higher
dose. It is your body's way of
counteracting the effects of the drug.
Dosages are decided on how your body
reacts to them and that is why people
start off with low dosages and work their
way up to an effective dose. So if your
body changes the dosage needs to change.
