Alcohol/one Attack Posted: 09-04-06 17:27pm
I just had an incidence which the hospital
doctor called hypoglycemia. The other
night I was sound asleep when I awoke
short of breath, heart beating fast, weak,
dizzy, and sweating so hard I was soaking
wet. I had not eaten much all day and had
about 5 alcoholic beverages amounting to
about 10 or 12 ozs. Of alcohol. I am one
who does not eat when he drinks which is
bad. I like my happy hours and getting
ready to go on a cruise. Could this
episode be a pre cursor to more attacks or
if I eat proper I can still drink when I
want? The doctor said there was to much
gas and not enough brake meaning eat and
slow down. I am 54 and never had this
problem in the past. Sugar for the last 3
days has been 139 to 150. I bought a
meter to check. My sugar was 114 when
emt's got me in the ambulance but that was
a half hour after they got to my house and
had an iv already in me. Answers are
appreciated.

Hi there! Try the american diabetes
association at diabetes.Org. They have
some really good info on diabetes!
I am a type 2 diabetic myself. I notice
that when my blood sugar is either high or
to low I get the same symptoms. For me,
I get very, very irritable,
tired/fatigued, headache, dizzy and
sometime frequent urination.
I wish you the best of luck!

If you're 54 and just getting this for the
first time, I doubt it can be a continuous
problem. It would have been something
that likely surfaced around age 21 or so.
My suggestion is to make sure you eat!
If you happen to notice a pattern now
begins where things you eat and drink
cause more symptoms, we can help you do
the right thing here, but I think you'll
be okay. Most likely it's only because
you didn't have any food in you and when
the sugar dropped, as it does in anyone,
you didn't have any glucose stored by the
liver to release so you had an attack.
Eat!
