Hi everyone,
i am a high myopic person (-10.5 left eye, -10.0 right eye) with astigmatism(-1.25, -.75). My problem is that my new prescription that I just received seems really strange and I was wondering if anyone else ever experienced this problem. Basically, I feel as though everything around me is moving or out of whack with my internal sense of how far they are. For example, when I am walking around my room, I can look at an object and estimate how far it is and therefore can reach for it. With these new lenses, however, I can't seem to estimate this distance clearly and things are either too far or too close. When I was driving with these glasses, I almost crashed into the car in front of me because it seemed as though it was far away, yet it was actually closer in reality. I have been wearing these glasses for about a week and i'm not adjusting to them at all. These lenses are high index lenses so i'm not sure if that plays a significant role. Are the prescriptions too strong??? I'm going tomorrow to lenscrafters to have them checked out.
Another problem that I have is that I can't seem to read without feeling severe eye strain/headaches. I'm a graduate student so I need to read a lot each day, which is making this problem even worse. I feel as though I need to put a lot of eye strain into reading and focusing but that my eyes aren't "strong" enough and therefore puts unnecessary strain on my eye muscles. Either way, it's really handicapping me and i'm really afraid that I won't be able to remedy the problem before my next exam. Does anyone know what I should do?
Finally, I was wondering if anyone ever woke up with one eye feeling as though it can't accomodate. For instance, looking at something close and then immediately at something far, my eyes can do this but my right eye is "slower" than the left. This is extremely bothersome because when I read, my right eye tends to lose focus and so I have to really focus hard to get any reading done. I feel that the opticians/optometrists won't know the answers to my problems and may just give me bogus advice just to dismiss me. Again, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure your glasses don't have a flaw in the lens. Have the place you got your glasses check for flaws. I am highly myopic, so much so that many places can not make my glasses and they often end up with a flaw. What you are describing is how I saw when the glasses had a flaw in the lens.

It sounds like your prescription is too high and you may have just 'accommodated' during the test - like a degree of pseudomyopia. Maybe your real prescription is -7.00? Because I am -7.00 with a high cyl and if I put on -10.00 specs, my eyes will accommodate, but everything will seem small and distant.

your eyes
No. I have much worse vision than you do. At 13 i was finally unable to use glasses at all. 1.) My nasal bridge was collapsing because even though the glasses were as light and as thin as possible it was still too much weight for my nose. and 2) They just weren't WORKING anymore. seriously. I live in Cali and was seen at the Jewelstein Eye Institute, one of the best in the world. I now have Toric contact lenses and even now the best vision i can get is 20/50 i'm barely able to pass they eye test at the DMV, so please. If your on Medi cal or have no insurance State Aid will help you. Because you are legally blind without glasses. Medi Cal covers the cost of my contact lenses because i am simply not ABLE to wear glasses anymore, my vision is much more functional with soft Toric lenses. they are expensive, get you DR involved. ask he/she to write a letter, push for the help you need. THE LAST PLACE YOU SHOULD BE GOING IS LENSCRAFTERS, YOU NEED A SPECIALIST!!!!! They are not able to help you and you will keep getting ripped off because they want your money. PLEASE, before you hurt yourself or someone else driving, go to an Optometrist at the very least. Good Lord, they will help you with payments or whatever but you are missing out and being taken advantage of. Shame on them. My DR would be appalled with stupid Lenscrafters and what they are doing to you!!!

I have high myopia and astigmatism of course my whole life. My question is about prognosis with one eye so drastically different than the other, so much that I am having a hard time seeing with them together. Many times I have to close one so the dominant one can see. Otherwise, I see one on top of the other and have to consciously work to adjust my glasses and make them see together. R is -17.25 +3.50 and L is -10.75 +3.75. Has anyone had this problem and what do you think will help - eventually wearing a patch or does contacts really help more?

Hi,

I am 29yrs and have high myopia with astigmatism.
Right -10.5 & ast -2.1D
Left -10.5 & ast -1.8D

I was using contact lenses for nearly 13 years. Now I have dryness problem that I no longer able to wear contact lenses. Wearing for a day long aggravate dryness and infection. I tried tear drops. Though it works, I am a bit apprehensive about its prolonged usage. I heard about ICL surgery but with ACD of just 2.87mm in both eyes, I guess that would be difficult.

So, I returned to my glasses, that is where I feel that I am not comfortable with it. I have difficulty in focussing and getting a dizziness feeling.

Any similar case with ICL experience?
