Hi everyone,
i am a high myopic person (-10.5 left eye, -10.0 right eye) with astigmatism(-1.25, -.75). My problem is that my new prescription that I just received seems really strange and I was wondering if anyone else ever experienced this problem. Basically, I feel as though everything around me is moving or out of whack with my internal sense of how far they are. For example, when I am walking around my room, I can look at an object and estimate how far it is and therefore can reach for it. With these new lenses, however, I can't seem to estimate this distance clearly and things are either too far or too close. When I was driving with these glasses, I almost crashed into the car in front of me because it seemed as though it was far away, yet it was actually closer in reality. I have been wearing these glasses for about a week and i'm not adjusting to them at all. These lenses are high index lenses so i'm not sure if that plays a significant role. Are the prescriptions too strong??? I'm going tomorrow to lenscrafters to have them checked out.
Another problem that I have is that I can't seem to read without feeling severe eye strain/headaches. I'm a graduate student so I need to read a lot each day, which is making this problem even worse. I feel as though I need to put a lot of eye strain into reading and focusing but that my eyes aren't "strong" enough and therefore puts unnecessary strain on my eye muscles. Either way, it's really handicapping me and i'm really afraid that I won't be able to remedy the problem before my next exam. Does anyone know what I should do?
Finally, I was wondering if anyone ever woke up with one eye feeling as though it can't accomodate. For instance, looking at something close and then immediately at something far, my eyes can do this but my right eye is "slower" than the left. This is extremely bothersome because when I read, my right eye tends to lose focus and so I have to really focus hard to get any reading done. I feel that the opticians/optometrists won't know the answers to my problems and may just give me bogus advice just to dismiss me. Again, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure your glasses don't have a flaw in the lens. Have the place you got your glasses check for flaws. I am highly myopic, so much so that many places can not make my glasses and they often end up with a flaw. What you are describing is how I saw when the glasses had a flaw in the lens.
