Hey everyone. Well, i've been on ortho tri cyclen for about 5 months now. I've never had a problem with spotting at all. This past month, I accidently missed two pills in a row and that made my period start mid-month. I was a bit confused about what to do from there.. So, although my period was on.. I continued taking the pills for about 3 more days. Being that I already had my period, I skipped taking the rest of the pills and went on to a new pack while my period was ending. My period was off for about two days.. But, ever since I had sex.. I have had had very persistant ( the consistancy is thick but the flow is light ) dark spotting. This dark ( brown ) spotting has been going on for two weeks now and is showing no signs of slowing up. What could this be?

That is normal to have that kind of spotting since you missed two pills..

Any bleeding that is not on your placebo week, even if it is heavy, is not considered your period, just breakthorugh bleeding.

When you miss 2 pills, you should take the two pills as soon as you remember,( even if you take more than 1 on a day) and keep taking the rest as usual..Basically you play catch up..Then you need a back-up for 7 days..

You did the right thing in starting a new pack , but you should not have waited for the bleeding to stop.. If you miss 3 or more pills then you would definately start a new pack, but with 2 you do not have to.

Anytime you are not on placebo pills, even if you miss a pill or are bleeding, you should keep taking a pill every day.

Yes, it would still be a good idea to go, unless it is for a pap smear..

Yes, you must keep taking the pills through any breakthrough bleeding or spotting, otherwise you can get pregnant.
