I recently had a run in with a table saw resulting in the loss of the bone and dip joint in the end of my left ring finger. For the past 7 weeks I have had a pin sticking out of it will it healed after surgery, in the hopes I would have enough scar tissue and bone fragment to keep it stiff.
My surgeon tells me that if the stiffness is not there my options are a bone graft or amputation. I asked why another pin, internal, could not be used. He wasn’t really sure why, but didn't like the idea.
My question is: is this ever done and where could I inquire about it. The finger will never bend, but I really don't like the idea of amputation. He is not real talkative (the surgeon)
