asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 31st, 2006
Doctor Question
I am currently pregnant, but I want to know what my day of conception is so I am not one of them girls that does not know who the father of her child is. So my question is I had my period on Dec 6th- Dec 9th. I had unprotected sex with this guy on the 9th of Dec and as soon as I got home I took the day after pill (Plan B) then a month later I got my period on Jan 10-Jan 14th. I had unprotected sex with my ex boyfriend almost the whole month of Jan. On Feb 7th I went to the doctors to get a check up and Std test and the doctor told me I was 4wks pregnant. I'm pretty sure my ex boyfriend is the father of my child, but I want to be exact and not have doubts. Please give me some answers.

If your data is accurate, (the last period was from the 10th -14th of January and you had unprotected sex with your ex boyfriend the whole month of January)... then your doctor was probably right. You may be confused because the age of pregnancy age is calculated starting from the date when your last periuod began (10th of January), not from the date of conception. The date of conception can be estimated only if you experienced regular menstrual cycles before pregnancy. Conception occurs soon after ovulation; 14 days before an expected period starts. It seems likely that the father is the man you had sex with the whole of January.
