Q: Bleeding And Passing Clots At 20 Weeks
asked by: Guest1 on August 31st, 2006

I was in the er last night because I am 20 weeks pregnant, and currently passing some good size clots (quarter size) w/ slight bleeding. My spotting started, off and on, about a week ago. The day before yesterday I went in for my normal scheduled ultrasound, and the baby is growing fine, has a very strong heartbeat, and otherwise healthy. He is still fine at this point even with the bleeding and passing of clots. He is still moving around and heartbeat at about 158. My doctor has put me on bedrest for no less than 24 hours for now. I have another doctor's appt tomorrow. Hopefully I can get somemore info on what is going on. At this point, no one knows. This is my fourth pregnancy, first ended in a miscarriage at 10 weeks (1995), and next two (1997 and 1999) were the easiest and most complication free pregnancies anyone could have. I worked until the day I had both. I have to admit, this one is so much different, and I am scared. Everyone trys to reassure me that sometimes this happens and the baby turns out to be fine, but the feeling is so undescribable. I wish all the other mothers, with complications and concerns, the best of luck. I hope this message helps someone.

One Day At a Time
Well, as a response back to myself and to others that are reading, doctor said that we just have to take it one day at a time. The bleeding has gotten better, and no more clots. Baby still has a wonderful heartbeat and is still moving around. My doctor said the bleeding could be from a lesion inside the cervix, or still there is that dreaded chance that this is a miscarriage. Miscarriages at 20 weeks are rare, but possible. I have no fever, no nausea, and no cramping. My cervix is in good condition, and so is the placenta. I'm pretty much on bedrest for now until things change drastically for the better. So, for those of you with concerns and worries, keep your faith. This can all be such an emotional rollercoaster. I go back for a regular check-up on september 20th. Hopefully everything keeps getting better, and not worse. Fingers stayed crossed and pray every chance I get.

Going Good
First, I can say there is still a smile on my face. I've made it to 21 weeks! The bleeding has pretty much stopped, and he is still in there moving around. I still have no idea why I bled and passed some significant clots last week? I was spotting the week before that also. My mom was wondering if I possibly was pregnant with twins, and one didn't make it? All I know is that your body can do some crazy things while being pregnant, and that miracles can happen. While this was going on, I researched getting my own digital doppler heartbeat monitor. I found this website called belly beats. I'm renting one of their monitors for $45 a month, and return shipping is included. I just received it today, and it looks brand new. Very pleased with the service and the product I got. It was so reassuring to hear my baby's heartbeat today. It really rested my nerves - wondering if he was ok every second of the day. I would recommend it to all those that are pregnant, especially those that are having complications. I'm still on a restricted daily schedule. My doctor has allowed me to go back to work, but on light duty. I have a desk job, so it helps. I want to save up as much leave as I can to have after the baby is born. Well, I wanted to keep my status updated. I plan to keep it this way until the end. I think it will help someone in a scary situation simular to mine. Just remember to stay healthy, happy, and positive.

Sad Ending
As the creator of this forum subject, i'm sad to say that my son was called to heaven @ 23 weeks of age. He was born asleep on september 24, 2006 @ 12:04a.M. It is still a mystery why this happened? I should, hopefully, know more on thursday the 5th, when I go back to the doctors and get the test results back. Because of everything that happened, it looks like I got some type of infection? It still feels like it happened yesterday, and I miss him deeply. As a grieving mother, please don't take your baby, kids, family for granted. Kiss them all, and tell each and everyone of them how much you love them, cause tomorrow is not guaranteed.
