Q: Birth Control and Blood Clots...can I stop taking pills imme
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 31st, 2006
I have been taking the pill Dianette for about 5 years. Recently my doctor informed me that over long term usage this particular pill can be linked to blood clots so she recomended yasmin. So without my 7day break I started taking it. However,I have been looking on the net and seen that this has very bad reviews. I dont want to continue taking this pill. Is it ok to come off this one immediately even though I am 5 days into the pack or carry on till the end?
Need advice quick as I am supposed to be taking the pill today for my 6th day!

Usually all birth control pills are connected to a risk of developing blood clots (deep vein thrombosis). The risks for developing blood clots is higher in women who smoke. Low-dose hormonal pills decrease this risk, but the risk doesn’t disappear completely. It seems that you can carry on with the current birth control until the end of the current pack and then consult your doctor.
