Q: to All You Americans...

I'm hoping this question can be answered really quickly. Me and my hubby want to move to america (specifically california) in the next 5 years.
Now we know it is really hard to get a green card to live there permenantly as you have to provide a use.

Well the thing is I am going to re-train as a midwife but my friend told me they don't have them in america and pregnant women are seen by their doctor. Is this true?

If so I am thinking of re-training as a nurse instead so at least I will provide a use! Lol

anyone know specific laws for california as a regards to people wanting to move there from the uk?

This would be really helpful. Thanks

Well I dont live in cali..But I do know a girl that moved here from another country...(i worked with her)..She had went to school and got her degree to become a vet ..And when she moved here ...She wasnt allowed to be a vet because our schooling and degrees are different than other places ..So in order for her to become one here ..She will have to start all over...So maybe you should also figure out about the schooling you are getting and make sure you arent wasting your time..You might be better off waiting till you get to america..As for living in cali...Shew girl ..It is expensive as he*l there ..So if money is a problem...Then cali wouldnt be the place for you..My cousin just moved there and her house is one bed one bath and it was over 200,000 dollars..Its ridiculous over there!

I'm pretty sure they do have midwives...I watch american birth shows and they have midwives. But as jillian said their schooling systems are different so you might have to go to school there. Which would mean you'd have to apply to become a student there and then apply for permanent residence. I say come to canada though.

Who told you the us doesn't have midwives? Your friend? Lmao,we do! Thats insane to think.I guess its believeable since you don't live here and have no clue. If I were you I would do what the others said anyway.Wait to go to school until you get here and decide what you want to do.I believe you can get a temporary visa until you find something and can get a permanant one.

Oh and cambion, not all of the usa sucks :)

i agree with that.
Our healthcare system is a joke. So is the school system. I would much rather live in a socialist country, its just not possible right now.

I've heard of girls seeing midwives in america.. Also on "a baby story" they have midwives with women on there, which takes place in america. But the one girl is right about the schooling too, you may have to retake certain courses.

Why don't you come to canada? We have lots of midwives here and free healthcare :) lol!

Mel you can always move next door to me lol!!!

In regards to schooling majority of the time you will have to redo it, I honestly would look into something before doing it. I know if you came down here(being canada) you would just have to pass a test in midwifery. I have a few friends from cali that are here now supposedly its a city of freedom and as much as they miss it they would rather be here..

I live in california. We do not have licensed midwives like you do in the uk. You'd probably want to train as a nurse.

We have them in new orleans. They have them in florida, they're basically everywhere, you just have to look.

Midwives are allowed in many places, but I believe in some states they are only allowed to attend pregnancies, not birth the babies.

Cali specific, I recommend you check out this site. Of course, the link won't work when you click on it, you'll have to type it out yourself: http://www.Cfmidwifery.Org

and then click on "state by state" and then california, on the map and it'll tell you about the laws and information about midwifery in cali.

All the best to you.

I would say move to canada instead, if you move to british columbia you can always travel down to california once and a while for vaction.. I've done it, it was a 2 day drive from where I am, which isnt bad... And yea free health care is way better then having to worry about health insurance all the time
