I bought an omega 3 food supplement.. It is indicated here that each capsule contains 1000mg of fish oil concentrate and vitamin e - 671.14 hg (unit is something like an inverted h, and followed by g)... I am taking 1 capsule daily.. But what is recommended here in its bottle is 3 capsules a day, which means 3000mg of omega 3 daily.. Is it healthy to take that much of omega 3 and vitamin e? I am an 18 year old male.. In case I will take 3000mg of omega 3 a day, what would be the possible consequences? Are there any disadvantages? Actually, im taking omega 3 as a memory enhancer.. What else would you recommend?

Taking high doses and only omega 3s is fad that has been recently discounted by health professionals..............As with all supplements they should be balanced....................I take them all the time and find them best for keeping an even mood and also great for the complexion and hair shine. They haven't helped for memory though........
.........Try a good co q supplement or dmae dimethylaminoethanol bitartrate(enhances mental concentration). :)

Omega 3
I don't agree that taking omega 3 (or 6 or 9) is a fad. All the oils most of the population consumes today have been refined and hydrogenated to lengthen shelf life - thereby reducing the "good fats" found in them.

Our diets today are really lacking in omega 3s and 6s. More so 3s I think. These good fats support our heart, and a healthy immune system. They are important for eye health. These good fats also insulate nerve fibres and are the building blocks of hormones and transporting nutrients. They are important structural components of all cell membranes - so i'd think they are fairly important in one's diet. If you're not getting them from the food you eat - supplementing is a great idea I would think - I take them every day.

I would like to warn you, though, to look for fish oil that is contaminant free. Some can contain mercury, heavy metals, pcbs and pesticides. I take usana's biomega-3 - which is 99.99% free of all of these).

Good luck. Stay healthy.

I knew a better omega-3 supplement that is 8x more omega-3s than wild samon. The product can be trusted because what is written on the package is really on the content. It's worth the price. My friend is been using it for quite some time now. If you're taking it for memory enhancer, you also need to have a good night sleep.
