My 87yo grandfather had throat ca 6 yrs ago and we found out this week he has squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. He is unable to receive any more radiation and is too old and in too poor of health to undergo surgery. He has been unable to eat since his throat ca and uses a feeding tube. He aspirates anything that goes in his mouth. Our only options were hospice or the new drug erbitux. The Dr. Said we only had a 15% chance with the erbitux helping. I say hospice and keep him comfortable, others in the family want to try the erbitux. Not knowing if he will tolerate it (i'm afraid he would throw up and aspirate it), we're not sure what to do. They've given him 6-12 months. What should we expect, with him not being able to receive any treatments?
