Q: Tenderness In the Middle of My Chest And Stomach Cramping

I am a 49 yo male. For about the last year I have been experiencing tenderness all the time in the middle of my chest around the top of my stomach and also cramps in the stomach area. I have bouts of belching not necessarily after food or liquid. I have been prescribed high doses of losec and other anti-acid drugs with no change. I have had the tube down my throat and everything seems normal. I don't noticeably have any heartburn but sometime experience a funny taste. I don't know if this has got anything to do with it but when I sneeze my left lower ribs hurt. I have maintained a low blood pressure and tests on my heart came up fine. I sleep like a log and the pain is at it's least when I wake up. I sometimes experience a sharp pain higher in my throat. Any ideas anyone?

I have the same thing! It has been happening for about 3 months though. I am a 25 yr old female with no major medical problems. I haver the tenderness in center of my chest and pain in my lower left rib sometimes. I was diagnosed with gerd which makes sense but now I have pressure in my ribs and back which I believe must be gas because I don't have it all the time. I was given a prescription for nexium but it is to expensive. When I hiccup sometimes it hurts so bad and I have burning in my throat and the taste is funny. I hope all of my symptoms are related to gerd and not like cancer or something- anyone have the same problem?

The difference between your symptoms and mine are that I have never had any feeling of acid in my throat. Most of the symptoms you describe are quite common and it is more than likely not serious. However if you are worried just pop back and see your doctor.
