Positive Test Results...was Yours Positive Too? Posted: 08-29-06 14:21pm
Hey ladies, well a couple a weeks ago
(when I was 35 weeks) I had the doc. Take
a swab out of my vagina to test for a
bacteria. She said its done to everyone
at 35 weeks and 1 out of 3 women have it
and dont even know it, and its not
sexually transmitted or anything, just
some have it and some dont. Did anyone
else have it? Cuz I do, and she said they
jsut inject some stuff in ur iv b4 u give
birth..Just want to know wat its called (
the bacteria) and if it affects anything
really? Thanks!

It sounds like .Group .B .Strep. They
swab for it at the end of pregnancy,
because if you transmit it to your baby
during delivery, it can make the baby
seriously sick. It's easily treated
though... They give you antibiotics
during labor, and your baby should be
fine. They used to not test pregnant
women for it at all, and babies were
getting really sick! It *can* be fatal
for the baby if left untreated, so it's a
really good thing they caught it. Just
make sure you get the iv medication and
you'll both be fine.

Sounds like it's a test for group .B
streptococcus which is a bacteria passed
from the mother to the baby during labour
that can cause death in newborns. It's
really good that you have been tested -
the antibiotics you will be given when you
go into labour should make sure everything
is ok with your little one.
I wasn't tested with my first baby but
when I have a second I am going to insist
because to lose a baby to something that
can be prevented would be heartbreaking.
Relax...It sounds like you are in good
hands!

Yeah...All the other ladies are right.
Group b strep.
I was just tested for it last week, and
mine came back negative.
