Q: Botox For Tmjd In Clinical Trials Currently
asked by: Dokieokie on January 21st, 2004

Well, has anyone had botox for their tmjd? If so, how did you fair? Also, you may be interested to know that if you liked it and wanted to continue doing it, that one day soon it may be covered by insurance. This is because they are currently conducting clinical trials on the use of botox for the management of pain and dysfunction associated with tmjd. They are already in their second phase. If it gets approval, then I don't see how insurance companies can refuse to cover this form of treatment if they cover other forms.

Botox For Tmj
I've used botox injections for tmj pain management for several years. It has worked wonderfully for me. I've had multiple surgeries (5) and have had both discs replaced. Splints, physical therapy, oral medications, etc. Did not work for me. Botox has been a lifesaver. I have injections every 3-4 months. It is quite costly and I hope that the use of botox for tmj is medically approved in the near future!

Botox For Tmj
Hi, I read your post and am very intererested in hearing a little more about how the botox worked for you. I've suffered for thirty years and have tried everything including surgery. I've even recently quit my job because i'm getting worse.... Basically I have no life at all right now. Can you please tell me how you got started and how it affected you.

Botox
I read with interest your experience on botox. I have been suffering from tmj since last 4 years. I would very much like to contact the doctor who treated you with botox. I will appreciate if I could have name and contact details.

Tmj?
I have pain in my jaw. The pain travels up my jaw to my ear (ear infection). In the morning it feels like my teeth lower jaw are miss aliened some how. I've had this for approx two months, it went away. I now, two ( 2) months later have it again. I open my mouth and have pain radiationg into my right ear, severe pain and hurts when I eat, etc. I don't know if it's tmj or another problem? If it's tmj, does Botox correct this problem?

Is Anyone Using Botox Now?
Some of these posts are old and the email address listed for Ecmorris is invalid. Anyone have any more info on this? I read a magazine article in a current issue that states that trials are STILL going on. Also, the problem with most insurances is if you list TMJD as the diagnosis there is limited coverage for any kind of TMJ treatment. I am going to PT, couldn't stand the oral appliance and have been miserable for months with pain that just won't quit and limitations that you are all aware of. Sad

TMJ
I started having problems after I bit into a sandwich a bit too big for my mouth.....the pain has gotten worse, I had this happen to me in January 7 months ago. My doctor diagnosed TMJ, and told me to just eat soft foods, etc., how long can you keep on doing that? Everytime I move my jaw it clicks, sometimes worse than other times. I am waiting for a referral to a specialist. As for the Botox, that is an expensive way to go, but what the heck, you can also get your face done at the same time. Does anyone know when they inject the botox? Thanks for reading about my problem.

not only is it expensive--its temporary---you can eat soft foods for as long as you want---i did it for 15 years and still do it to a certain extent. I can help you get to a doctor that will " fix" the problem--just let me know--just pm me or email me

I had botox injections today and am quite confident i will have great results. I know it is not a cure to the problem but something has to be done when you are in excrutiating pain on a daily basis. Drugs are not any better as you have to deal with the side effects. So if you can find a reputable dr. that does botox injections then go and have a consultation with him.

BOTOX INJECTIONS & TMJ
I had 3 botox injections in my tmj on the 24th July 2008. I've had pain in my tmj for 13 years & hope it will give me some relief. I live in the UK & it took me 3 years of going to my doctor before being taken seriously over my tmj problem which started soon after wisdom teeth extraction. I haven't slept properly for most of those 13 years & have lost jobs over being in pain, tired & altogether miserable.

AMJ how are you doing after having had botox? I had eight injections in all. Two to each left and right jaw and temple area. I felt better the first week but not much more than that yet. I go for a check up with my pain specialist next week. i think i will probably need more injections.\

No side effects from this Dyan. you don't seem to be in favour of trying botox but honestly when one is in severe pain day after day for several years, then you try anythiing to try to feel better. i am out of options.

actually you arent out of options--there are many options that many dont know about --no im not in favor of injecting anything and there are side effects--as with any drugs--they just arent known at the present
