Q: Paranoia

I'm constantly worried about contracting things from touching household items. I had poison ivy rashes years ago, and I hear that the bacteria can linger on clothes or tools you touch (or household items?) for years. Does the same go for warts or foot fungus?
Am I wrong to be this paranoid?
