Could It Be Achalasia???? Was Told Nothing Was Wrong!!! Posted: 08-27-06 21:21pm
For many years I have had a problem while
eating. It used to happen only once a
month or so when I was in elementary
school, but now at 26 it happens like
every other day. So her's what happens...
I eat something and think all is fine
take a drink and nothing happens and then
all of a sudden something feels stuck,
lots of pressure in my chest and almost a
panicky feeing wondering if it will ever
go down. Either it finally slips down and
I feel relief or I have to run into the
bathroom and gag it up. There is no
stomach fluid just the food and drink that
has become stuck. I would figure that if
something was protruding in my esophagus
that liquid would at least be able to
pass, so it must be something completely
cutting off entrance into my stomach.
I went to an ear nose and throut
specialist a few years ago and did the
barrium swallow and was told that there
was nothing wrong and the bleeping doctor
(sorry:( ) just sent me on my way without
trying to figure out what else he could do
to help or to try any other tests. But
duh since it doesnt happen every time I
eat then maybe it wouldnt show up on the
x-ray at that time, and maybe there really
is something wrong. I looked up achalasia
and most of the symptoms seemd to match
except that it isnt at every meal. I dont
know what to do to get someone to listne
to me and believe me that I have a problem
and I dont want it to keep getting worse.
I am so nervouse to eat out or over at
someones house because I know there is a
good chance that I will end up running to
the bathroom. I am just wondering if
there is anyone out there who knows what I
am going through. I guess my grandma has
the same problem but has never had it
checked. Thanks for passing it down
grandma lol.
Thanks for listening to me ramble. I am
very good at wrting books when I post lol

This sounds like my exact symptoms and I
have achalasia. You should really have
your doctor recheck you. Barium swallow,
emano (esophogal manometry), and upper gi.
These are the steps to take to find out
if that is what you have. I just had
surgery on the 6th of sep. I am
recovering now so I am on liquids and soft
foods.
