Hi
my son is 3 and he has a seizure disorder.
All the tests were done (cat scan, mri,
eeg) and nothing was found to be wrong
with him. The neurologist says this is a
good thing. What I want to know is the
doctor told me that when someone has a
seizure their blood pressure goes down and
their pulse goes up. This doesn't happen
with my son, all that happens is that is
blood saturation levels go down into the
high 70s to mid 80s. Does this mean that
maybe he has a problem with his lungs or
something? Why does this happen, is it
normal? Also, my son when he had his
first of 4 seizures in a 24 hour period,
he turned blue. The er doctor told me
that this is normal for someone having a
seizure. I didn't know what was going
on, never being around someone having a
seizure before. I thought he was choking
so I did the heimlick on him (well,
infant's heimlich) when I did, he spit
mucus from his mouth and he immediately
got color back to his face and hands.
Was he choking? I worry about this when
i'm not around because he has chronic
allergies and has constant mucous in his
throat. I don't want him choking and his
caregiver thinking he is just having a
seizure
