Med's Not Working?! Posted: 08-25-06 23:20pm
I've been going to this psychiatrist since
sometime in july, he diagnosed me with
bipolar type 2 disorder and depression.
He prescribed me lamictal 25mg (now taking
100mg) and trazodone 50mg (now taking
100mg)
i really don't feel any different from
when I first started going, except for my
sleep habits
i told him this last time and he said that
the medicine has to take time to work, so
I have to feel like crap until it decides
to work?
I feel like my boyfriend hates me and that
everything that I do is wrong, the whole
reason I went to the psychiatrist in the
first place is because I wanted to make
our relationship better, because I was
mean to him and denied it a lot!
I mean i've wanted to go to a psychiatrist
ever since my mom passed away in 2000 (i
was 14 turning 15) but never had the
courage or my father wouldn't take me
because he said I was fine..I guess the
whole relationship deal pushed me
further..I mean our relationship is much
better, but I still feel like crap and I
still feel like I treat everybody like
crap..
And i've been spending way too much
money..
I don't know, I just don't think this
medicine is helping..
Sorry for such a long post ;\

Lamictal And Other Med Posted: 12-13-06 21:18pm
Lamictal is used to depress abnormal nerve
activity in the brain, thereby blocking
seizures. Though some people are
maintained on a single drug, most take two
or more anticonvulsant medications to
prevent seizures. Maybe you can try to
take more medications. Be careful that
interactions occur in individuals taking
several anticonvulsants.For interactions
involving a specific anticonvulsant, refer
to the highlighted drugs listed below.
acetazolamide (diamox®)
carbamazepine (carbatrol®, tegretol®)
felbamate (felbatol®)
levetiracetam (keppra®)
oxcarbazepine (trileptal®)
primidone (mysoline®)
topiramate (topamax®)
valproic acid (depakene®, depakote®)
zonisamide (zonegran®)

I can't believe that your doc is actually
prescribing you trazadone as an
anti-depressant. Trazadone never really
had a market as an anti-depressant because
people rarely saw results. Now they
mostly give it to people as a sleep aid
which just happens to be one of the side
effects and I took it as a sleep aid for
about 5 months and it would knock me out
cold after about 10 minutes and I was
taking 50mg so I don't know how you're
surviving on 100mg! In your position that
is what I would attribute my feeling like
crap to.

I was diagnosed with pbd in 1997. My
doctor and me are still trying to figure
out what meds are helping or not. I
started with depakote and prozac and was
doing well for a long time. Then
everything wore off and I went on
cymbalta. The cymbalta helped for awhile
and then I became manic. I was also
struggling with obesessive thinking and
tried geodon and another med, both not
doing any good. Now i'm on cymbalta and
seroquel. My sleep has improved a lot but
I dont' feel that my cymbalta is doing the
trick. It takes so long before someone
finds the right meds.
Bipolar disorder typically emerges in late
adolescence or early adulthood but in some
cases begins earlier. Episodes of
depression and mania flare up across the
life course, often disrupting work,
school, family, and social life.
